The best things in life are free
If asked to define what the most important things in our life were, how many of us would say our car or our designer shoes? Bombarded by adverts telling us that we cannot live without things that we have managed perfectly well without for years, it is easy to forget that the things that are important to us are often the things that we cannot see.
If you were told that you were going somewhere tomorrow and you could only take three things what would they be? I am sure that given time for reflection, most of us would say our family, our health and the health of our family (we’ll cheat and include this as one item!) and happiness. Not one of those things can be seen or bought, at least not in the conventional sense of the word.
Of all of these it is the last that is the hardest to define. What is happiness? We can have all the possessions in the world but they are not guaranteed to bring us happiness. We can have all the money in the world, but again this is not guaranteed to bring us happiness. Most people with money and possessions spend a lot of time trying to hang onto those possessions. It would seem that happiness could best be defined as peace of mind. If you have peace of mind then you have no worries or cares because your mind is at peace. The same applies to our spirit. If we have spiritual peace we cannot help but have happiness.
But what is spiritual peace? Spiritual peace is when we know that we are living the life we are meant to be living. Spiritual peace is when we are listening to the spiritual voice within us and following the pathway that we, as spirits, have chosen to live.
This is not as complicated as it may seem. As spirits we have not only chosen the direction our lives will take here, we have also chosen the spiritual destination that we are intending to reach by the end of our time here. Our spiritual destination can be reached however we choose to reach it. We can take the direct route on the motorway or we can meander through the country lanes, stopping to admire the scenery and deviating to look at places of interest. It doesn’t matter which way we go because we will all get there in the end. It doesn’t matter how many stops we have on the way, or how many times we get lost.
It also doesn’t matter which route others take on their spiritual journey because we are all part of the whole and as such have all agreed our spiritual pathway together. This means that there is no reason to be jealous of someone else’s life because you are both on your spiritual journey together. Although your paths will cross, both journeys are of equal importance and both journeys will achieve the spiritual aims of the spirit who has chosen them, however many deviations and rest stops you both take.
Letting go of jealousy is one step towards achieving happiness and happiness is just one of the many free gifts that you can give yourself.
